Braids are on trend right now and they will continue to be as head into warmer temperatures. Expect more creative takes on the styling technique and a departure from the traditional three-strand braided hairstyles. The perfect example of on-trend hairstyles this season Moroccanoil's Raven Faux Braid, a textured take on a braided look, minus the braiding.
To get the look, follow these simple steps. (Be sure to check out what’s in our toolbox, too, to really nail the look.)
Hair How-To: The Raven Faux Braid
PREP: Cleanse and condition the hair. Apply Moroccanoil Treatment Light globally from mid-lengths through ends and rough-dry. Use a Marcel iron to create a beach-wave curl globally. Allow the hair to cool.
STEP 1: Create a horseshoe section, use 1” subsections, work from front to back and back-brush the hair with a teasing brush.
STEP 2: Gather all the hair within the horseshoe section, twist it at low crown and secure with a bobby pin.
STEP 3: Use a curved needle to loop elastic thread around the hair where it twists at the lower crown. Push the needle through the last loop and tie off.
STEP 4: Direct the hair on the left side back, twist three times in a clockwise direction, wrap around the existing ponytail and secure with a bobby pin.
Design Tip: Leave several loose strands of hair out along the front hairline.
STEP 5: Repeat procedure on right side, twisting the hair counterclockwise. Repeat procedure with the remaining hair on the left and right sides at the nape area.
STEP 6: Ruche the hair to expand the ponytail. Spray hairspray over the finished look for style retention.
